Great Buddha of Ueno
In 1631, the first 6-meter sitting image of the Shaka Nyorai constructed out of cray and stucco was erected. Later, around 1660, it was replaced by one made out of bronze. Since then, the Great Buddha image was lost and rebuilt to numerous fires and earthquakes, but when the head was damaged during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, The buddha was dismantled and has been stored in the Kaneiji Temple except the chest part. In 1972, the face was made available for public viewing in the former location of the Great Buddha.
