Benten-do of Shinobazu Pond
In 1625, the Great Priest Tenkai thought to create a miniature version of the protective factors of Kyoto. He built the Shinobazu Pond in place of Lake Biwa, a small island was created in place of Chikubushima Island and the Benten-do was built by appropriating the Benzaiten's powers from the Hougonji-Temple on Chikubujima Island. When the elaborate miniature was created, there was no bridge so people had to use boats to pay respects to the Benzaiten. Later, a stone bridge was built to make the island more accessible but the bridge was lost on March 10, 1945 to the Great Tokyo Air Raid. The present bridge was rebuilt in 1958.
